Tina Santone - Partner

Tina Santone specialises in employment law and family law.

Tina was admitted to practice as a solicitor in July 1999.

She holds a Masters Degree in Labour Law and Relations from the University of Sydney and a Masters Degree in Applied Family Law from the College of Law.

Early in her career, Tina worked at the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (now Fair Work Commission), providing advice to members of the Commission, legal practitioners, unions and employer organisations. She was an Associate to a Deputy President of the Commission and to a Judge of the Compensation Court of New South Wales.

Tina was as a Senior Associate with a large law firm, heading up their workplace relations division. She had a wide ranging client base, including local and state government, large corporations, small business and individual employees. Apart from representing clients in litigated matters, Tina provided advice to employers and employees regarding collective agreements and individual contracts and termination of employment. She assisted employers in developing policies and procedures to ensure they met their obligations under workplace health and safety, discrimination and termination of employment law. A key highlight of Tina’s practice was her management and coordination of the state’s largest workplace health and safety prosecution.

Whilst raising her four children, Tina expanded her academic knowledge and was employed as a part time lecturer in Family Law at Macquarie University. Tina’s interest and expertise in family law evolved during her time at Macquarie and in general practice.

Tina has been practicing in family and employment law at Santone Lawyers since 2010. Whilst Tina aims to resolve matters through negotiation in the first instance, she has extensive experience in litigation and has been involved in a number of significant cases in both the family and employment law jurisdictions.

In family law, Tina has a particular interest in the impact of family violence on property and parenting cases and international aspects of family law (including Hague Convention proceedings). Tina regularly receives referrals from counsellors and other legal practitioners. Tina is a Member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia.

In employment law, Tina has developed an interest in discrimination law, post-employment restraints and termination of employment (particularly in circumstances when an employee is injured). She acts for both employees and small business, giving her a balanced insight into this area of law. Tina receives referrals from other legal practitioners, accountants and community legal centres.

Outside of work, Tina enjoys tennis, yoga, the theatre and spending time with her family and pets.
